RMS - Retail Management System
If you are not familiar with RMS from Microsoft and you run a store, RMS is worth investigating. Microsoft entered the POS and
retail arena several years ago when they purchased an existing POS software system. Since that purchase RMS has gone througth three
version. The core of the system is the MS SQL Server Database engine. With the database structure, open development environment
and full range of features, this is gaining market share for a reason.
For E-Commerce?
RMS is a good fix for the retailer who is thinking moving into the e-commerce sales. If you do not
know it already, integration between sales channels is mission critical. Adding new sales channels to any business is great in theory,
but can come with substantial overhead if business processes do not communicate. RMS communicates and it communicates well!
E-Commerce Plus?
E-commerse is a sales channel and it is also a catch all for a multi channel solution. In practice if you are lookng at
e-commerce you are really looking at adding a number of new sales channels to your business. Because as soon as you launch your
e-commerce site the first question you will face is how to grow sales. And the answer is add other e-commerce channels; Amazon, Bizrate, Shopzilla
etc.
Our Solution
Our approach centers on the POS. A retailer runs their business from their POS and backoffice software. No retailer needs
multiple backoffices, expecially if they do not commit with the an accounting package. Since prices, inventory and ordering is
handled so well in RMS, or any POS for that matter, we build upon those features.
We integration fully with RMS and make the the e-commerce solution the middleware or gateway for a business into
new sales channels. RMS becomes the management, fulfillment and reporting center, while our commerce engine provides the
tools and technigques for creating, supporting and developing new sales channels.
FUD
This might seem like overkill for a retailer taking the first steps into the e-commerce world. The following are questions that all
retailers will ask either before choosing a solution or not long after.
- How do I integration with Amazon?
- How do I work with a warehouse fulfillment system?
- What is the cost for adding new sales channels?
- Can my SEO company manage parts of my website?
- What happens when I open a new store?
Next Step
We are happy to explore these unknowns. It is always cheaper to explore them before commiting to any solution provider.
